HISTORY 

The GCube is the latest Mels3D Design using a Core XY with a 32 bit Motherboard. 

Using 12MM Linear Rails for extra stability and to achieve low maintenance, fast and consistent printing speeds and to battle ghosting, Zbanding and moisture related issues.

The name GCube is derived from the calibration cube printed by Melxlxtreme R1. The print was flawless,  where Mel named it The God Cub,  hence the name was reserved for the next plastic printer, whatever it is, As cube was superior to all the prints ever made. Adapting the name from the cube, Mels wanted to achieve same perfection.Using what is available until a permanent design has been made. Hence borrowing some voron 2.4 parts which are 3d printed.



MELS3D ORIGINALS (upgrades to be implemented)

HOTEND WITH DUAL COOLING

Mountable to MGN12C Mini block with dual part cooling that can assist faster print speeds and accelerations.



The expiremental Hellfire Hotend could increase the print speed with its dual vertical heater catridges, enabling equal heating from sides. The hell fire is mountable to the Mels3D Printhead.

XY BELT PULLEY TIGHTNERS

The XY Belt puley tightners are inspired by Mels3D Melxlxtreme R1 XY Belt tightners. It has been modified to utilize an 688 bearing, M8 Hex bolt and T flange brass buts.

Z BELT PULLEY

The Z belt pulley are Designed to take the stress of the heavy gantry. The mount can be connected on dual sides of the extrusions for increased support.

QUAD GANTRY SPEARICAL BEARING Z MOUNTS

The Quad Gantry Spearical Bearing Z mounts are designed by Mels3D to remove gantry levelling friction and to make angular misalignment possible for the quad levelling.

Z MOTOR BRACKET BELT TIGHTNER

Custom Motor plate which can be adjusted from the front to aligh and tighten z gear belts.

X BRACKETS

Custom X Brackets for the X axis.

XY BRACKETS

The XY Stepper brackets are designed to make the gantry slim and spacey for the Inductive sensor attached to the printhead.

XY ENDSTOP SWITCH PLATE




Simple custom plate for mounting OMRON SS-5GL Switch.

Z STOP

The Z stop brackets are designed to fit under the buildplate by drilling the edge of the aluminum plate. Two versions are made, one with Timing pulley gear and the other with 605 bearing where the 5mm SS rod can trigger the micro switch inside.

Z BELT CLIPS

The Z belt clips are used to give additional support to the pulleys by adding an additional 2020 extrusion mounted by Mild Steel plates. The secondary function of the belt clips are to give additional bond between Joined 2020 extrusion.

Y HAMMER

The Y hammer is used to trigger The Y endstop.


INDUCTION BRACKET

The original Induction brackets by Mels3D is to mount the insanely large shielded 30mm Induction probe to the print head.

STOCK PRINT AND ANALYSIS

ACID BED LEVELING ANALYSIS

The Qgl and 5*5 mesh results on a cold bed. Currently postponed heater pad due to technical difficulties.

Since the acid bed levelling was exothermic i am expecting to get better results when the aluminum bed is hot.

SQUARENESS ANALYSIS

Every 3D printer gantry should be square to obtain dimensionally accurate prints. Hence the Gantry squareness must be tested and adjusted if deviation found. The Maze vase has been selected due to its square design. Here we can see that all corners are perfectly 90 degree and the gantry is dimensionally accurate.

TEST PRINTS

MAXIMUM TESTED SPEED (as of 11/8/22)

300mm/s test run shows positive results to carry forward the test by increasing speed and acceleration.

STEEL CORE BELT FAILURE

While printing extremely fast, the steel core gt2 timer belts failed and the tests has been postponed until new fiber glass belts arrive.

FURTHER TUNING

RETRACTION TUNING

Retraction settings tends to differ with each filament brand and the temperature used. Hence its a setting i rarely finetune and sticks with an average parameter to save time and effort.  Here's the perfect settings that i've found optimal.
